ISPRS awards Prof. Wolfgang Förstner with Brock Gold Medal in Recognition of Outstanding Contributions to Photogrammetry The International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) announced today that Prof. Wolfgang Förstner of Bonn University, Germany, will be presented with the 2016 Brock Gold Medal Award for his outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of photogrammetry and computer vision. Professor Förstner is an internationally leading expert in photogrammetry, computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning. Throughout his exemplary career of nearly 40 years as a researcher, inventor, innovator and educator, he has made exceptionally significant scientific contributions in many areas of Information from Imagery and mentored generations of mapping scientists and engineers. Examples of his work include blunder detection for aerial triangulation, image matching, object recognition and statistical projective geometry. The well known Förstner Operator, for the detection of key points in images, was developed by him in the 1980's. After studying Geodesy and Surveying, Förstner first worked at the University of Stuttgart before moving to the University of Bonn as Professor for Photogrammetry from 1990 until his retirement in 2012. Although now formally retired, he continues his scientific activities. The Brock Gold Medal is sponsored by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) and is awarded to an individual in respect of an outstanding landmark in the evolution of the photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences. Funds for the provision of the medals were given in memory of brothers, Arthur and Norman Brock, early American photogrammetrists who,…

Dear Ms Halounová, Since 2004 we are organising the European Satellite Navigation Competition, the largest ideas contest that annually awards the best services, products, or business innovations using SATELLITE NAVIGATION IN EVERYDAY LIFE. The competition serves as a Europe-wide support mechanism for entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs, students, researchers, individuals that and all participants to get their business off the ground. The competition comprises the largest innovation network in satellite navigation with support from more than 130 key GNSS stakeholders and regional partners as well as the largest space-related incubation network. It has already awarded prizes to more than 270 winners over the years, which represent just a fraction of the nearly 3,500 innovative concepts submitted by over 10,000 total participants. Everyone with a brilliant idea is welcome to join and submit their entries from 1 April - 30 June 2016 at: www.esnc.eu We kindly ask you to help us spread the word about this great opportunity for the new space community! Cooperation with unique space stakeholders offered Participants can sign up for one of the attractive Special Prizes to implement and test their idea with key GNSS stakeholders. In 2016 the topic dedicated prizes will be awarded by the European Space Agency (ESA), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), and BELS. Contestants can also participate in the University Challenge or in the GNSS Living Lab Prize. Dedicated support of national stakeholders to launch ideas Participant can also apply for a regional challenge…
